Sermon Recap
1. Every Environment Carries a Sound
The message began with a powerful observation:
environments shape people.
People absorb the “sound” of the culture around them.
Over time, environments shape:
speech
desires
values
reactions
identity
The sermon explored how culture disciples people without them even noticing.
Key insight:
“Spend enough time somewhere — and eventually the atmosphere starts speaking through you.”
Examples included:
accents changing after moving countries
fashion trends
social conformity
Jacques Ellul’s observation about millions believing they are “free” while all doing exactly the same thing
The challenge:
The church must recognise that this present age also carries a sound.
2. Pentecost Was Heaven Invading Earth
Acts 2 was presented not merely as a revival meeting or spiritual experience, but as:
heaven invading earth
the birth of a new humanity
God reclaiming His people
Before the disciples spoke differently…
they first heard differently.
Before there was speech:
there was a sound
the sound of heaven
Key theological insight:
Pentecost mirrors Genesis.
The same Spirit:
hovering over chaos in Genesis
breathing life into Adam
descending on Sinai in fire
…now fills ordinary people.
Pentecost is creation happening again inside human beings.
3. The Church Must Not Echo Babylon
The sermon contrasted:
Babel
and Pentecost
At Babel:
humanity tried to ascend to heaven
people sought self-glory
language fractured
nations scattered
At Pentecost:
heaven descended upon people
language united nations
humanity became a carrier of heaven’s voice
Babylon was presented not merely as a historical city, but as:
a spiritual system
a culture of self-exaltation
self-protection
self-promotion
image worship
Pentecost directly confronts Babylon.
The church is not called to:
imitate culture
echo outrage
mirror vanity
adopt celebrity obsession
The church is called to sound different.
4. Wind — The Breath of Another World
The first manifestation of Pentecost was wind.
The sermon explored the Greek word pneuma:
wind
breath
spirit
God’s new humanity is meant to be:
Spirit-led
Spirit-formed
Spirit-empowered
Important application:
The church does not merely need:
better branding
better marketing
better strategies
The church needs:
breath
wind
the Holy Spirit
Memorable challenge:
“Without the wind of the Spirit, the church becomes a museum rather than a movement.”
5. Fire — The Holiness of Another World
The second manifestation was fire.
Fire in Scripture represents:
holiness
purity
God’s presence
Examples explored:
Moses and the burning bush
Sinai
Elijah
Pentecost
The sermon warned against:
emotional Christianity without holiness
excitement without surrender
activity without purity
The fire of God:
comforts
purifies
confronts compromise
burns away idols
Key burden:
God is looking for a people who burn for:
holiness
presence
purity
first love
6. Speech — The Language of Another World
The Spirit changed the disciples’ speech.
This was presented as more than speaking in toungues alone.
Pentecost changes:
vocabulary
tone
witness
culture
The church is meant to speak:
forgiveness instead of revenge
peace instead of outrage
hope instead of despair
humility instead of self-exaltation
The sermon challenged believers to examine:
“What atmosphere speaks through you?”
What we continually listen to eventually becomes:
our language
our reactions
our witness
7. The Final Challenge
The conclusion carried both:
warning
encouragement
The Warning
The church must resist becoming:
an echo of Babylon
shaped more by culture than by Christ
The Encouragement
Pentecost shows that:
ordinary people can carry the sound of heaven.
The Spirit transforms:
fear into courage
bitterness into forgiveness
shame into identity
addiction into freedom
The final appeal was for the church to recover:
the breath of another world
the holiness of another world
the language of another world

Lord, tune my ears to the sound of heaven.
Holy Spirit, help me recognise the ways culture has shaped me more than Christ.
Let the breath of God fill every dry and weary place in my life.
Burn away compromise, pride, impurity, and lukewarmness in me.

peace
truth
forgiveness
courage
grace

Let our church carry the sound of another world in Gibraltar.
Deliver Your church from becoming an echo of Babylon.
