church overview

Welcome to Living Waters Church.....

We are a small Christian fellowship based in Gibraltar. We call our fellowship Living Waters Church because we believe the words of Jesus when he said “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me”

Jesus said that there is a mighty River of God's presence flowing with grace, love, joy and the power of God. The experience of many who have taken the plunge in these waters that Jesus spoke about is that once you enter this river you are never the same. Come join us! The water's fine!

With best wishes,

John.

We would love to connect with you and say hi!

John Baw

founder / pastor

Above everything else, John is mortified that he cannot make the above picture smaller (Blame the website guy). He insisted that his title “pastor” be all in lowercase letters (Think about that).

John has been leading the church in a bi-vocational (that is a sophisticated way of saying “part-time”) capacity since its foundation in 2002.

John and Annabelle have been married for 25 years and have three wonderful boys, Aaron, Eli and Ethan.  Before helping to plant the church, John served in a leadership team in Spain.  He has helped to launch various nonprofit initiatives and ministries in Gibraltar.

what we believe

what we believe

WE BELIEVE

ABOUT GOD. We believe there is only one true God who is the eternal King, Creator and Redeemer of all that is. He is perfectly holy, just, loving and truthful. He has revealed Himself to be eternally self- existent - one being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

ABOUT THE BIBLE: WE believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

ABOUT HUMANITY: We believe that humankind was created in the image of God to know and enjoy Him, yet we wilfully rejected the Lordship and glory of God for which we were intended. Because of this, sickness, death and judgment entered the world and now creation experiences the effects and consequences of sin.

ABOUT JESUS: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and is God’s Anointed One, empowered by the Holy Spirit to inaugurate God’s Kingdom on earth. He was crucified for our sins, died, was buried, resurrected and ascended into heaven, and is now alive today, in the presence of God the Father and in His people. He is “true God” and “true man.”

ABOUT SALVATION: We believe that we are are saved by God’s grace, through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Anyone can be restored to fellowship with God through repenting, believing and receiving Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. The Holy Spirit, convicts, regenerates, justifies, and adopts us as we enter the Kingdom of God as His sons and daughters.

ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live holy and minister super-naturally. The baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 1:4-8 and 2:4 is poured out on believers that they might have power to be witnesses.

The victorious redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides freedom from the power of the enemy * sin, lies, sickness and torment.

ABOUT THE CHURCH: We believe that the Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He gave His church the ordinances of Baptism and Communion. The Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus Christ and further advance His kingdom by undoing the works of the enemy, preaching and living the good news of God’s love, discipling the nations, baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.

ABOUT THE HOPE FOR WHICH WE LIVE: We believe in the ever increasing government of God and in the Blessed Hope, which is the glorious visible return of our Lord Jesus Christ for His overcoming bride * His church. Heaven and hell are real places. There will be a resurrection of the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting death.

vision & values

vision & values

Our Vision

A Spirit-filled church serving Gibraltar and beyond by passionately proclaiming the life and finished work of Jesus Christ.

Our Core Values

We believe that a culture of worship creates space for us to experience the tangible presence of God. This enables a movement that is shaped by the message and praxis of the Kingdom of Heaven. Within this culture, we come as we are and gather as a safe and welcoming family that serves compassionately in a culturally relevant way where everybody has an important role to play.

Worship

Our highest calling is to worship.  Worship is more than singing songs, it is a heartfelt response to what God has done for us in Christ. Worship is a lifestyle. To worship God changes our heart posture to surrender and adoration. In this life journey, our worship compels us forward to do the work of The King and His Kingdom.

Experiencing God

Worship creates a space for us to experience the tangible presence of God together.  We were created to experience God’s love and enjoy Him forever.  We give this the highest priority.  We believe that in Christ God has reconciled a lost humanity in order to draw us into intimate relationship with Himself. We value the life-changing power of the experience of His presence.

Come as you are

This experience of God’s presence affects all aspects of our life so that all division between the secular and the sacred vanish.  We value an approach to God’s presence that is respectful both of God and of those we are with. We eschew religious hype and other efforts to manipulate either God’s presence or the response of others to His presence.

Theology and Practice of the Kingdom of God

We are rooted and grounded on the message of God’s Kingdom.  Jesus asked us to pray for God’s Kingdom to come “on Earth as it is in Heaven”.  We live to manifest those things which exist in Heaven (God’s Kingdom, the realm where He exists).  We believe that this is central to biblical thought.  We believe that we exist in order to passionately proclaim the life and finished work of Jesus, which manifests itself in healing (physical, emotional and social), justice and love.

Reconciling & Safe

We value our church family as a grace-full, safe, friendly and welcoming place where you can be yourself and discover everything God created you to be.  We are committed to becoming a healing community that believes that the power of the Cross is sufficient to bring healing and to break down all barriers and divisions between us, God and each other.

Culturally relevant

We are committed to expressing the timeless and unchanging message of Jesus in a modern and culturally relevant way.

Compassionate ministry

We love the lost, the poor, the outcast, and the outsider with the compassion of Jesus as sinners whose only standing before God is utterly dependent on the mercy of God.

We believe that ministry in Jesus’ name should be expressed in concrete ways through the local church. The poor are to be served as though serving Jesus Himself. This is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a church expressing the love of Christ in a local community.

Everyone gets to Play & Do the stuff

We believe that ministry is for everyone, not only for clergy, leaders or special people with ministries and posters.
